Kosyo Minchev (b. 1969) is a Bulgarian artist who lives and works in New York. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia in 1996 and is among the key figures associated with the activities of the XXL Group in the 1990s—one of the most radical phenomena in Bulgarian contemporary art during the transition period.
In his practice, Minchev explores the boundary between tradition and its destruction, using fragment and deformation as primary artistic techniques. For him, sculpture functions as a field of tension between form and transformation, where classical references are subjected to processes of reduction and reimagining.
Since 1997, he has lived and worked in New York, where he has developed his international career. He has had a long-standing collaboration with Stefan Stux Gallery (New York) and Beaumontpublic + königbloc (Luxembourg). His works have been presented in numerous exhibitions in Europe and the USA, including at Wittgenstein House (Vienna) and the Queens Museum of Art (New York). His work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Village Voice, and Sculpture Magazine.
