Georgi Yankov (b. 1964) is a Bulgarian artist, designer, and educator, an established figure in the fields of poster art and visual communication. In 1990, he graduated from the National Academy of Arts with a degree in Poster Art, where he later developed his academic career. In 2008, he completed a residency at Cité des Arts, Paris. Since 2010, he has been a professor in the Department of Poster and Visual Communication, and since 2020, he has held the position of Rector of the National Academy of Arts.
His creative practice spans a wide range of media, including posters, graphic design, painting, objects, and installations. His work is characterized by the intersection of various techniques and materials, as well as an interest in the interaction between image, object, and space.
Alongside his artistic activities, he has worked actively in the field of advertising for more than two decades, creating numerous campaigns and video projects. Yankov is a co-founder and chairman of the New Vision International Group and a member of the board of the Graphic Design Section of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
His works have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad, including the exhibition “Neo-Renaissance” at the UBA, Rayko Aleksiev Gallery (2024), “70 Years of Poster and Visual Communication” at the Sea Casino Cultural Center, Burgas (2018), “Posters for Bulgarian Plays” at the Azaryan Theater, NDK (2017), and “120 Years of the NAA. The Teachers” at the UBA Shipka 6 Gallery (2017), as well as “Posters for Bulgarian Plays” at Peroto Literary Club, NDK (2016) and “Hommage à Despo” at the Ivan Vazov National Theater (2016). Other participations include the international exhibition “Law and Justice,” presented in Strasbourg and Tbilisi (2016), Munich and Berlin (2014), Tunis and Düsseldorf (2013), Potsdam, Brandenburg, and The Mission Gallery, Sofia (2012); “Contemporary Bulgarian Humorous Poster” in Zwettl, Austria (2015); “10 Years of Bulgaria in NATO” at The Mission Gallery, Sofia (2014); “Favourite City” at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in London (2014); an XXL exhibition at Art Alley Gallery, Sofia (2013); “Bulgarian Artists” in Caribrod, Serbia (2013); the International Poster Exhibition in Vidak, South Korea (2012); the “Stage Poster Triennial” in Sarajevo (2011); and “Messages to the World” – a poster exhibition within the framework of the Shanghai EXPO (2010).
