Photography exhibition by Velin Belev “Relations” 05.09 – 25.09.2024 When we look closely at the world around us, we have already crossed the threshold into multiplicity—and thus into relations. There are relations that are visible, governed by harmony or dissonance; and there are others that elude the senses and can be grasped only by the mind. There are probably also others that cannot be reduced to the perceptions familiar to us. Like any visual gesture, the photographic one is, in its essence, a gesture that inevitably reveals a certain relation. The proportions of the figures, color, and composition are technical means in photography. Through them, relations can be expressed—relations that point toward the realm of the symbol and toward plots that call for interpretation. The photographs presented do not necessarily aim to stimulate the interpretive act. To an even lesser degree do they seek to make visible a specific narrative. Their orientation is rather toward immediate aesthetic perception, toward an intuition for a certain type of proportions, a sense of color and light.
