Nikolay Konstantinov’s exhibition “Quartet at the End of Time” is inspired by Olivier Messiaen’s composition of the same name—created in captivity, yet extending beyond time. Video installations and sculptures made from containers, adorned with traditional Bulgarian embroidery motifs, intertwine in a contemporary visual score exploring identity, boundaries, and memory.
In this visual quartet of the 21st century, Nikolay Konstantinov speaks of the end not as a catastrophe, but as a state of extremity—of the spirit, of matter, of time. And within this limit, an opportunity emerges: for contemplation, for the renunciation of possession, for a new beginning beyond the noise of modernity.

The videos feature footage from the seashore, in moments of ebb and flow, day and night, and flying seagulls—creating a contemplative encounter with timelessness. This landscape—eternal and unshakeable—recalls Messiaen’s cosmic perspective, but also a rhythm that renounces the metronome, where sound becomes a prayer.
