Exhibition “METAMORPHOSIS”| Vasil Dokev – Vado | 01-21.10.2026
Opening 01.10.2026 (Thursday) from 19:00
ONE Gallery presents “Metamorphosis”, the new solo exhibition by Vasil Dokev – Vado, in which the artist makes the butterfly the sole image and protagonist of his painted narrative.
Appearing in different scales, colors and states, the butterfly gradually moves away from its natural form and becomes a sign – of change, freedom, fragility, and the ability to continually create ourselves anew.
At the core of “Metamorphosis” lies the paradox this image carries: beauty and vulnerability, brightness and transience, lightness and radical transformation. The butterfly’s brief life is preceded by a complete transformation – a passage from one state to another, in which the old form must be left behind before the new one can emerge.
For Vado, the butterfly is also part of a longer search – the idea of flight. The flight of the spirit, movement forward and backward in time, flight as abstraction. Over the years, this thought has found different images in his work – a bird, a kite, and now a butterfly. In the new series, it is the butterfly that concentrates the various meanings that preoccupy the artist – refinement and beauty, fragility and delicacy, changeability and transformation, trembling and breath of air.
In “Metamorphosis”, Vado takes the butterfly out of its natural environment. The forms are expressive, saturated with color and energy; the line is decisive, and the contrasts between black and vivid colors give the compositions a strong graphic presence. Behind the apparent lightness of the image remains a sense of movement, tension, and vitality.
For this series, the artist also sought a new technical solution. He developed his own technique using transparent plastic surfaces, through which he creates a sense of flight, wave, and delicacy. In this way, the material itself becomes part of the idea of movement and transformation that runs through the exhibition.
