The project “Dualism II” is a continuation of the exhibition of the same name organized at ONE Gallery in 2020.
The idea of unity and dualism is in itself controversial enough in the history of mankind.
In divine constructions and explanations of the world, duality is active—order comes from chaos, in which everything is one; Yahweh plays with the feelings and fate of Job, regardless of justice in his motives, combining within himself both good and evil.
Beyond the scope of the celestial, however, for millennia the organicity of dualism has been rejected. Western culture relies on radical transformation—in fairy tales, skin turns into gold, the hero undergoes initiation and achieves courage, weakness leaves the cavities of the body.
Conventionally, the aspiration of the self should be towards goodness and purity.
It was not until the Enlightenment, when mythos was transformed into logos, that we permanently moved beyond a one-dimensional understanding of the psyche and began to explain duality.
The exhibition “Dualism” deals with this (sometimes painful) coexistence of contradictions, its acceptance, and (re)integration.
The works explore, on one hand, the complex nature of matter and form and their connection to the image and the visual, and on the other, time—its duration and the static nature of the captured moment.
Parallel to this, the artists seek manifestations of this concept in social constructs, the corporeal, the city, and language.
The exhibition is a kind of gesture towards the polarities in the fabric of the world.
