The ability to improvise and sense the environment around you is exceptionally important for every artist. This is precisely what we see in the exhibition “2/24,” which opens at ONE Gallery in collaboration with the National Academy of Art.
The exhibition features 11 students from the Poster and Visual Communication Department at the National Academy of Art: Betina Gankova, Vasil Vasilev, Dana Tileva, Dimitar Bozdanski, Emilio Borata, Elena Kaymakanska, Maria Cheshmedzhieva, Mariana Ivanova, Petar Ivanov, Sara Samman, and Hristo Butsev. The curators are Georgi Yankov and Nenko Atanasov.
In the final, fourth year of their bachelor’s studies, the artists bring together their creative explorations by embracing the challenges of this project.
Each artist had only 24 hours to conceive, find, and photograph the subjects of their photographic pursuit.
Without preliminary discussions or time to prepare a theme and direction, the students had to intuitively find their subjects and point of view and present them in two frames.
Dadaism emerged 100 years ago. This art movement is characterized by an absence of logic, rational thought, and message. The association between the chaotic everyday life of the big city and the principles of Dadaism forms the starting point for the concept of this project.
Beyond the absurd and illogical, the viewer’s imagination may discover a visual context, sometimes imbued with irony or a sense of humor. Through the works presented, the young artists invite viewers to discover their own personal interpretation of a single 24-hour period.
The exhibition opens on November 3, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. and will continue until December 3, 2017.
